Weekly Message

Good afternoon parents, guardians and students of Daniel Pearl Magnet High School! This is Ms. Smith with your DPMHS weekly message!

Classes began with great success, enrollment is up and students are settling into the routine! Welcome to our new students and families, as well as our new staff: Mr. Baer, English, Ms. Felix, Math, Ms. Lichtman, School Psychologist and Mr. Ruiz, Special Programs.

Breakfast in the Classroom has begun, and all students are provided a breakfast at no cost at the end of their period 1 class, and is provided in their classroom.

DPMHS conducts random searches daily and this includes student lockers, backpacks and a metal detection wanding. DPMHS maintains a log of daily searches indicating the classroom selected, the random manner of student selection and the time of the search, as well as the findings. This is required by LAUSD, and is intended to manitain a safe campus. All persons on the campus of DPMHS can be randomly searched.

Parents, please follow all traffic rules when departing our front parking lot, drop off area. The exit is at the south end of the lot and requires a right turn only onto Balboa Blvd. As you know, traffic is very heavy the closer you get to 8:00 am, so I encourage all families to plan for an early arrival to avoid the possibility of your student being tardy to Period 1. Detention begins tomorrow, August 18th, during lunch, for all students tardy to any class.

Tuesday, August 19th is a shortened day, and school dismisses at 1:37 pm.

The first PTSA meeting will be held this Thursday, August 21st, at 7:00 pm, in the multipurpose room (MPR) at the front of the school. All are welcome!

Please be patient with requests for schedule adjustments. Ms. Torres is working diligently to get all requests done as soon as possible, while at the same time, managing a challenging new program to create schedules.

Parents, if you receive absence notices and your child is in school, please disregard them. LAUSD has had difficulty with the implementation of the new web-based attendance program. We are working with LAUSD to update our attendance to be accurate.

Thank you everyone for a great start!
