Congratulations to The Pearl Post and Ms. Chavira
We want to share the wonderful news that The Pearl Post is a finalist in the 2014 National Scholastic Press Association’s Newspaper Pacemaker contest, the highest recognition for a high school publication. The Pearl Post is one of eight finalists from across the nation in the ‘Broadsheet 8 or fewer pages’ category and the only school selected from Southern California!! The winners will be announced at the JEA/NSPA National High School Convention in Washington D.C. in November.
Fourteen DPMHS journalism/media students hope to attend this 4-day convention in Washington D.C. this November and they are working hard to raise funds so that they can pay for their registration, airfare and hotel (LAUSD does not provide funds for this activity). If you would like to help these talented students get to Washington D.C., you can donate directly to their cause on the youcaring.com site at http://www.youcaring.com/tuition-fundraiser/dpmhs-student-journalists-go-to-washington-d-c-/233758.
If a copy of the September issue of The Pearl Post didn’t make it home to you last week, you can always visit the online site at www.thepearlpost.com for articles and exclusive online content written and produced by our DPMHS students.
Again, congratulations to Ms Chavira and The Pearl Post student journalists!
Thank you,
Mary Bower
