Dear Parents:

Your student is currently enrolled in one of the Fine Art electives at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School, either Keyboarding, Guitar, Choir, or World of Music. Due to a drop in enrollment in the Fall Semester, DPMHS was notified we lost 2 teaching positions for the Spring Semester, although we have been able to save one of them.

Your student will be scheduled into another elective for the Spring Semester, but it will not be a performing arts elective. Mrs. Torres and I are still working with the teachers to determine the best elective offering for the effected students. All students will be properly scheduled into classes that will fulfill A-G and graduation requirements, with the seniors taking priority.

It is my full intent to ensure that the Music program, with Mr. Hambright, return to DPMHS in the 2016-2017 school year, and students who took a performing arts elective this fall will be able to complete the full year requirement next year during the spring semester. Mr. Hambright stepped in to a dire situation and has made a significant impact on our students in a very short time! The students enjoy his classes and his colleagues are very supportive of his being a member of our faculty!

Our current enrollment is 365 students; the District allocates 12 teaching positions for this enrollment and DPMHS currently has 14 teachers funded by LAUSD. In order to reduce the disruption to students’ schedules and instruction, DPMHS was able to put together additional funds from various budget lines to purchase one of the released positions, but we were not able to purchase two. In order to increase our teacher allocations to 13, we must have 371 students enrolled by mid-September of 2015, and in order to have 14 teachers allocated, (full restoration), we must have over 401 students enrolled by mid-September.

Each and every one of you can help by encouraging your friends, neighbors, and acquaintances to considering enrolling their student(s) at DPMHS. As you know, DPMHS is an awesome school who cares about the whole student! We have achieved 100% graduation rate for 2 years in a row, are an award-winning Journalism school, and we are in the top 3% of high schools in the nation! Please spread the word about our school! We will be enrolling “late-magnet application” students, walk-in students in the fall, and will have openings in all grade levels!

Actualmente sus alumnos están inscritos en una de las materias optativas de bellas artes que son Teclado, Guitarra, o Mundo de la Música en la Escuela preparatoria Magnet Daniel Pearl. Debido a un declive de inscripciones en el semestre de otoño, a DPMHS se le avisó que perdió dos puestos de maestros para el semestre de primavera, Sin embargo pudimos salvar uno de ellos.

A sus alumnos se les programará otra materia optativa para el semestre de primavera, pero no será en artes escénicas. La Sra. Torres y yo seguimos trabajando con los maestros para determinar la mejor opción de clases optativas para los alumnos afectados. A todos los alumnos se les programará apropiadamente en materias que cumplirán con los requisitos A-G y los requisitos de graduación, los alumnos de 12º tendrán prioridad.

Todos y cada uno de ustedes pueden ayudar animando a sus amigos, vecinos, y amistades a que consideren inscribir a sus hijos en DPMHS. Como ya saben, DPMHS es una escuela fabulosa que se interesa en los alumnos en su totalidad. Hemos logrado un indice de graduación de 100% durante dos años seguidos, una escuela premiada en periodismo, y estamos entre las primeras 3% de preparatorias en la nación. Por favor corran la voz sobre nuestra escuela.
