Senior Pictures

July 14, 2015 at 3:14 pm

Daniel Pearl Magnet High School Seniors:

Start watching your mail later this week for a postcard with your appointment for your senior pictures on August 5th and 6th. Please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment to complete your check-in. All seniors will be photographed in formal attire (drape for the girls and suit and tie for the boys) for the yearbook and in cap and gown. Boys may wear their own suit or tuxedo. We recommend that girls wear a tank top.

There is a $20.00 sitting fee payable at check-in (cash, money order or credit card only.) This fee allows you to choose your yearbook pose and will be applied to any purchase.

If you need to reschedule your appointment, please call the number provided on the postcard as soon as possible.

Please note that that late arrivals on picture date may result in rescheduling of your appointment.

Can you earn more points than me this summer?

June 26, 2015 at 2:20 pm

Hi DPMHS,

I’m Cam from Khan Academy, and I challenge you to join me for a Summer Surge of learning!

No matter what you choose to learn on Khan Academy, you’ll be eligible to earn two special badges:

Summer Surge: Earn at least 50,000 energy points this summer.
I Beat Cam: Earn more points than I do this summer.

Start earning your summer points now

The challenge runs from June 23rd through August 28th. There’s no special signup to earn these badges; all you have to do is start learning now!

Not sure what you want to learn this summer? Here are three ideas:

  1. Supercharge your math skills. For example, if you’re headed into Algebra I, jump into the Algebra I mission and get started on those mission foundations (prerequisites) to make sure you start the school year strong.
  2. Join Pamela, our Computer Science teacher, for a Summer of Scripting! Sign up for reminders and weekly contests to help you learn JavaScript, one of the web’s most popular and important programming languages.
  3. Explore a new topic you’ve always been curious about, such as economics, finance, art history, or health and medicine. Remember: You can learn anything!

Check out the official rules. I look forward to learning alongside you this summer. You can track my summer learning progress by watching my Khan Academy profile or following @icamlearn on Instagram and Twitter. Let me know what you’re learning using the hashtag #KASummerSurge.

Your fellow learner,

New District Organization

June 4, 2015 at 8:41 pm

On July 1, 2015, LAUSD will be organized into six local districts that are all geographically based. Our Superintendent Ramon Cortines has created a document that explains the reasons for this change and what it means to you and your children.

Here are links to the document in English, Spanish, and Armenian. In addition, at the bottom of each document is a note written in multiple languages that tells parents what number they can call if they need help translating the document.
