Weekly Update

February 27, 2017 at 6:01 am

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly update! On Friday, Feb 24th, we had a spectacular event called “Ice Cream with a Cop” during Fiesta Friday! It was amazing to see our students and teachers thanks by the LA School Police, including Chief Zipperman, Deputy City Attorney Jackie Lawson, Director of Operations, Dr. Darneika Watson, and many other officers from the LA School Police! Entertainment for the event was provided by many of our talented music students performing music from a variety of generations! It was truly a great day and our students were so gracious, thanking the officers for their service!

I want to call your attention to concerns related to the traffic on Balboa Blvd and in the parking area/driveway in front of the school. It is all of our responsibility to look out for all of our students, so please slow down when in the parking area, allow student to cross in front of you while you are passing through the driveway, and please do not drop your students off at the curb on Balboa. I continue to strive to get the District and the City to do something about the dangers of the driveway(s) and congestion on Balboa. Please watch for students on foot, skateboards, and bikes as you are entering or exiting the driveways. Remember, we are the models for our children, they are watching us!

An Evite went out to families for the “Every Student Succeeds” event on March 7th. If you haven’t RSVP’d, please do so at http://evite.me/wuahEShj2t. Come see your student’s classes in action!

Seniors: Congratulations to Class of 2017 Valedictorian, Rebekah Spector! We are all proud of your accomplishment! March 2nd all seniors should have their FAFSA submitted. Remember to register for the senior breakfast and picnic in the Student Store. The Breakfast is $25 and the picnic is $30.

DPMHS has 7 students, 2 of which will be alternates, participating in a chess tournament, Saturday April 29, through Assemblymen Adrin Nazarian’s office, at High Tech High, LA! Go Team!

Are you interested in playing basketball in a tournament on Mar. 30th at Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences with 4 other schools? Sign up on the counter for your name to go into a drawing. Ten names will be picked to represent DPMHS at the tournament, and girls and boys are welcome!

ON Tuesday, Feb 28, there is a Math Contest at Nutrition in Rooms 11 and 12.

Wednesday, March 1, the AP Spanish Exam sign-up will be on Ms. Torres table outside her office.

Friday, March 3, Fiesta Friday is back on it’s regular schedule! Make sure you get your dance ticket before lunch on Friday! Also, Nachos will be served to all students and faculty who were in attendance all day on Friday, February 17 and all day on Tuesday, February 21st! Tickets will be distributed during 4th period.

Math tutoring is available after school on Mondays in Room 11, and on Thursdays in Room 12. All are welcome to come for extra help!

This Saturday, March 4th, is Local District Northwest’s Steam Fest Event at Cleveland High School, 8140 Vanalden Avenue, Reseda! DPMHS will have displays set-up and our Music students will be performing! Come support our school and encourage other families to join our great family! We can also use any volunteer assistance you would like to offer!
