Principal’s Message for December 2009
Dear Parent/Guardian,
It is hard to believe that the holidays are almost upon us! Less than three months ago, Daniel Pearl Magnet High School (DPMHS) opened its doors as a new comprehensive small high school. In this short time, we have launched a new online virtual AP Academy, opened up a media tech film-making class and a digital animation class, enrolled students in art, dance and theatre classes, published the first edition of our new student newspaper, The Pearl Post, elected our student body officers and sponsored over 20 student clubs.
Our students participate in all sports with students from the Birmingham Community Charter High School and will continue to do so for the next five years. In addition, our students are distinguishing themselves as skilled athletes, talented theatre actors, award-winning journalists and student government leaders.
Despite the severe budget cuts in education, DPMHS continues to offer high quality education in a warm and personalized environment. Visitors to our campus continually comment on our wonderful students and caring staff.
I am grateful for the enthusiastic involvement of very active parents who have helped us to set up our new school councils: the School Site Council, Title I Advisory Council and the Local School Leadership Council. We have recently established a Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) to generate fundraising activities for school projects.
As we approach the holiday season, I think about the wonderful new school community we are building. I feel thankful for each day I spend with the special parents, staff and students of Daniel Pearl Magnet High School.
My best wishes to all of you…
Janet Kiddoo
