Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update!

On Monday, November 13th, students will be bringing home the 15 Week Progress Reports. Please sign your student’s report and have them return it to their Period 1 teacher.

Tuesday, November 14: Shortened Day Dismissal at 1:42pm.

Wednesday, Nov. 15: DPMHS welcomes the Kadima String Quartet! Selected classes will be seeing this performance in the MPR. Parents are welcome to join us!

Thursday, Nov. 16: The SSC meets at 5:30pm, followed by the PTSA meeting at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend this meeting!

Friday, Nov. 17: All students will participate in a Restorative Justice Circle during 4th period, with House events to follow at Lunch in the House Courtyards.

Our Senior Sharks are selling See’s Candy! All orders are due by November 27th. College Application Workshops are going on throughout the week. CSF Members must turn in their 10 volunteer hours to Ms. Mauermann by the end of the semester in December.

Looking ahead: Thanksgiving Break begins on Monday, November 20 and ends Friday, November 24th. Finals for the fall semester will be on December 12, 13, and 14th. December 13, 14, and 15 will be minimum days with dismissal at 12:27pm.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Daylight Savings time ended today at 2:00AM! Did you set your clock back 1 hour?

On Monday, Nov. 6th: The LA Public Library Field Trip is happening! “Class of” Meetings are happening at lunch in rooms 17, 10, 15, and 13! Bring your voice and ideas to your Class of Meeting! Courtyard 2 North is Closed Monday due to trash being left behind! Remember to clean up your area!

Tuesday, Nov. 7th: Shortened Day Dismissal at 1:42pm.

On Thursday, Nov. 9th: We are on a Minimum Day Schedule with dismissal at 12:27pm! Magnet Buses will depart DPMHS at the regular time, 3:16pm, and we will have supervised after-school activities. Parent/Guardian Classroom Visitations are happening today from 8:15am – 12:27pm, then mini parent conferences will be held in the MPR beginning at 1:00pm – 3:16pm.

Friday, Nov. 10th is a school holiday in observance of Veteran’s Day! thank you to all of our Service Members for your commitment to our country!

Senior Packages are on sale now in the Student Store!

Looking Ahead: The next SSC and PTSA Meeting is on Nov. 16th, beginning at 5:30pm. PTSA begins at 6:30pm. All are welcome!
Thanksgiving Break is Monday, Nov. 20th – Friday, Nov. 24th!

Good Afternoon Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. World Music Day last Thursday night was spectacular! Thank you to all of the performers, Stage Crew, PNN, and Mr. Hambright for such a wonderful evening!

Monday, October 30th is PJ Day for Spirit Week! Wear your PJ’s! Parents, the School Experience Survey is coming home today, so complete your survey and help us get 100% turn in this year!

Tuesday, October 31st: Spirit Week ends with Halloween Costumes! Dress up, have fun, and just remember no masks or weapons!

Wednesday, November 1st: At 8:15am, we have a Parent Workshop in the Parent Center: Parent in Control Part 2 and Stress Reduction Techniques! JoAnne Tuell, MSW, will be presenting!
National Honor Society Applications are due to Ms. Pevar in Room 15.

Thursday, Nov. 2: ASB is Period 4 in Room 7. Math Tutoring is in Room 12 from 3:15 – 4:15pm. Everyone is welcome!

Friday, Nov. 3: Kahoots Trivia Contest is in the MPR at 4:15pm, $1 to play, Prizes to win and snacks will be sold! Come test your Pop Culture Knowledge!

College Application Workshops are being offered this week on Monday and Wednesday, in the library from 3:16 – 4:16pm. with Ms. Torres.

Seniors: There is a Senior Meeting at Lunch in Room 13 on Monday! Also, Senior Packages are on sale in the Student Store! Buy early and get a discount!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly update!

The House Basketball Tournament is in full swing! The Finals will be held next week! Thank you to everyone who participated in the Pasta Fundraiser! The Senior Class raised over $700 so far! This is awesome! Thank you to PTSA for your incredible generosity in supporting our school!

Spirit Week begins on Tuesday, October 24th and is as follows:

Thursday, Dress to Impress
Friday, Reverse Day… dress in reverse and the periods will be reversed: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 6! Show your spirit and participate!

World Music Day is finally here! The show will be on Thursday, October 26th, at 7:00pm. If you plan to attend, please reply on the Evite that was sent through Jupiter!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Thank you to all of the staff, students, and families who participated in our first family movie night, hosted by the PTSA! If you missed it, you missed a good time!

The juniors, 11th grade students, experienced a real treat this past week at the show, Hamilton, at the Pantages Theatre! What an incredible experience for all of them! Thank you to Ms. Mauermann and Ms. Price for participating in the offer to bring our students to this Broadway hit play!

On Monday, October 16th, Ten-Week Progress Reports will be mailed home. Please sign your students report and have them return it to their Period 1 teacher. Also, don’t forget to be checking Jupiter regularly for their latest, up to date grades! IF you need help logging onto your Jupiter account, please call the school and we can help you!

Tuesday, October 17th: Parent Center Parent Reps will visit DPMHS for a tour and to have their questions answered about our school! We want our neighboring Parent reps to learn about our great school to help us promote it to the families in middle school! Dismissal is at 1:42 today.

Thursday, October 19th: DPMHS School Site Council begins at 5:30pm and all are welcome! Then at 6:30pm, the PTSA will hold their meeting. Both meetings will be in Room 13.

Friday, October 20th: The Senior Pasta Sale ends today! Place your final orders at https://www.funpastafundraising.com/shop/daniel-pearl-magnet-high-school-seniors! All money raised will help offset the costs of promand any extra funds will go to the Junior class!

Looking ahead:
Daniel Pearl World Music Day will be on October 26th, at 7:00pm. All are welcome to attend this event. IT helps if you RSVP to the school by calling 818-654-3775.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update.

Congratulations to Emely Felix for being selected to perform her poem at the Hamilton show on Thursday! Way to perform, Emely!

Seniors: Class of 2018 Meeting, is in Room 13 at Lunch, Monday. The Prom Committee is meeting on Wednesday, Room 13, at lunch.
Pasta Fundraisers are due October 20th.

Thank you to all of the families and staff who contributed and attended the Family Potluck Dinner last Thursday night! It was nice to see so many families and staff enjoying the evening together!

On Monday, October 9: Students in the 9th and 10th grade will see a live Macbeth performance here at school! All “Class of” meetings will take place at lunch time in your advisor’s classrooms.

Tuesday, October 10th: Dismissal is at 1:42pm

Thursday, October 12th, students in the Junior Class will be attending the play Hamilton, at the Pantages Theatre! Departure is at 8:00am sharp, and students will return to DPMHS at 6:00pm. All students should bring a sack lunch and snack or order one from the cafeteria. No students will be allowed to buy lunch on the field trip. All students will be required to ride the bus to and from school, no exceptions will be made.
Math tutoring is from 3:16pm – 4:00pm.
Fiesta Friday tickets are on sale for tomorrow!

Friday, October 13th: PTSA is hosting Sci-Fi Movie Night, 6:30pm in the MPR. A snack bar will be open and the movie is free!

The Red Cross Blood Drive is on October 19th. Daniel Pearl World Music Day is on October 26th at 7:00pm in the MPR! The next potluck is scheduled for November 2nd!

Daniel Pearl Magnet is still in need of 1 parent volunteer and 1 parent volunteer alternate to serve on the Council of Councils, the parent voice to the Local District office. If you are willing and able to help, please email Principal Smith! Here are the dates:
Tuesdays, October 3, 2017November 7, 2017January 30, 2018, and March 6, 2018, from 9-11am, at Valley Academy Arts and Sciences on Balboa, just north of Devonshire.

Tuesday, September 26th: Senior Portrait Make-Up day, students will be notified of their appointment time. It is also a shortened day with dismissal at 1:42pm.

Wednesday, 9/27: Joanne Tuell, PSW, is presenting “Parent in Control” Parenting Class, at 8:15am – 9:45am in the Parent Center.

Thursday, 9/28: The 1st Prom Committee Meeting will be held in Room 13 at Lunch. School Site Council holds its first official meeting and elected members will be voted into positions. All are welcome to attend the meeting. We still need student nominees.

Friday, 9/29: Ms. Chavira and Mr. Middlebrook are taking students on a field trip to PBS SoCal, trip slips are required with parent signatures! There is a Math Contest during Nutrition! Fiesta Friday is also happening, buy your dance tickets early!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to all of the parents who attended the PTSA meeting last night. We appreciate all of your support!

Monday, September 18: All “Class of” Meetings will be held in Advisor rooms at lunch.

Tuesday, the 19th: Picture Make Up Day for all students, seniors this will be for ID’s only. At 6:00pm, the Smart Track College Prep App will be held. This is an excellent tool for families to support the college process. It is also a shortened day, dismissal at 1:42pm.

Thursday, September 21st, there is NO SCHOOL!

Friday, the 22nd: All students will participate in House Lunches in House Courtyards!

Looking ahead: Senior Portrait Make-Up Day is on Tuesday, Sept. 26th, 8:15am – 11:00am. You should have a scheduled appointment.
Wednesday, 9/27 at 8:15am, the Parent Center is offering a class, “Parent in Control”, led by Joanne Tuell, our Psychiatric Social Worker! This will be an informative session for all parents!
Thursday, October 5th: Families Potluck Dinner, 6:30pm – 7:30pm!
Sunday, October 8th: The Encino Family Festival will be from 10am – 4pm and DPMHS will host an information table to recruit new families! Join us at our table and spread the good word about our school!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Parents, please make sure we have your correct phone number of emergency contact and remember to log in to JupiterEd to view your students online grades. Your student received your temporary password from their English teacher. If you need help logging in, stop by or call the school.

The front parking, driveway area continues to be very congested. Please remember to drive safely and with caution! All students are “our kids” and we want everyone to arrive in class safely! Patience is a virtue, so let’s be patient with each other! Also, we are still looking for parent volunteers to help in the lot both in the morning and after school.

Tuesday, September 12th students will bring home their 5 week progress report. Parents, please sign it and students return it to their Period 1 teacher. Tuesday is also a shortened day with dismissal at 1:42pm.

On Thursday, September 14th, Period 5, the LA Times High School Insider will speak with students about contributing their work to their website.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Remember, tomorrow is a school holiday for Labor Day! Tuesday, September 5th is a shortened day and dismissal is at 1:42pm.

Tuesday, September 5th is Picture Day! All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook, ID cards, and school pictures.

Wednesday, September 6th School Tours will be offered at 11:40am for all prospective families!
ROP Robotics begins this day at 3:30pm in Room 2! See MS. Torres for details and to register! This is a 5 credit class!

Thursday, September 7th is Back to School Night, beginning at 4:30pm with Title I and ELD Meetings in Room 15; the GATE meeting will be at 4:45pm in Room 12; class visits will begin at 5:00pm.
Class Delegates speeches will be made at lunch in the following rooms:
9th grade – Room 19
10th grade – Room 10
11th grade – Room 15
12th grade – Room 13
All delegates running for office should be prepared with their speech.

Friday Sept. 8th Class Delegate Elections will be held at Lunch in all English classes! Vote for your Class of Delegates!
