Weekly Update

Good Evening Sharks, This is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to all of our parents who attended Open House on Thursday, March 23rd! I also want to thank the faculty for putting in the extra attention to having their rooms ready for your visits! Thank you to Sal and Juan for putting in the extra time assisting teachers who had to move classrooms, and for getting additional gardening and janitorial services and Wynter and Lupe for staying to assist in the office.

Monday, March 27th, Mr. Middlebrook is taking some students on a field trip.

Tuesday, March 28th is a regular day with a 3:02 dismissal. The Pierce College Rep will be here to assist students with their applications. AP Exam Payments are due today to Ms. Torres.

Wednesday, March 29th the School Site Council will meet and the main topic is Budget and Categorical funds. All are welcome to attend this important meeting. The meeting begins at 5:30, in the library.

Thursday, March 30th, DPMHS will send 10 basketball players to play in a intramural competition against Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences, Miller CTC, and Adams HS! Go Sharks! The English Department has a Poetry Slam event scheduled as an assembly.

Friday, March 31 is a holiday for Cesar Chavez Day and there is no school.

Science Center, Pixar Exhibit, Field Trip is Monday April 3rd.
Spring Break is April 10-14

Good Evening Sharks!

This is Nicole Bootel your Magnet Coordinator with your weekly update. Tomorrow, 10 week progress reports will be mailed home. Students who received a D or F should get in touch with their teacher to discuss how they can improve.

Tuesday is at 1:32 dismissal.

We have many clubs meeting during lunch this week such as Chess, Bible, STEAM, Fashion, Dance and more.  All you have to do is show up!

AP Exam payments are due to Ms. Torres by March 28th.

Good afternoon Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. First off, did you remember to set your clocks ahead one hour last night? Daylight savings has begun. Are you on Social media? Follow DPMHS on Facebook at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School, and DPMHSPrincipal on Instagram and Twitter! Principal Smith uses all of these social medias apps to inform our community of events and news from school!

Monday, March 13th, the Steam Club meets in Room 12 at Lunch, and the Junior Class is holding a Junior Class meeting in the Library at Lunch.

Tuesday, March 14th is a regular day, with dismissal at 3:02pm. The Math department will be honoring PiDay in the Math courtyard at Nutrition and Lunch! The Chess Meet-Up will be getting together at lunch in Room 7! All are welcome!

On Wednesday, March 15th, the Truth Be Told Bible Club will meet in Room 4, the Fashion Club meets in Room 6, and Lunch Bunch meets in the Library, all during the lunch period.

Friday, March 17th is Fiesta Friday! Make sure to purchase your dance tickets in the Student Store!

Seniors: Please make sure to pay for your Senior breakfast, $25, and Senior Lunch, $30, if you have not purchased a Senior Package or already paid!
Graduation is June 9th, 5:00pm, at Mulholland Middle School Quad, and each senior will get 6 tickets for seats. Prom is on Sunday, May 28th, at the Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, beginning at 5:00pm. Grad Nite will be on Saturday, June 10th. More information will be coming about Grad Nite.

AP Students: the deadline to register for any AP exam is on or before lunch on Friday, March 17th! All payments for AP exams are due no later than March 28th!

Looking ahead:
The 10-week Progress Reports will be going out in the mail on Monday, March 20th.
Friday, March 31st is a school holiday in honor of Cesar Chavez Day, and Spring Break is April 10 – April 14th.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly update! On Friday, Feb 24th, we had a spectacular event called “Ice Cream with a Cop” during Fiesta Friday! It was amazing to see our students and teachers thanks by the LA School Police, including Chief Zipperman, Deputy City Attorney Jackie Lawson, Director of Operations, Dr. Darneika Watson, and many other officers from the LA School Police! Entertainment for the event was provided by many of our talented music students performing music from a variety of generations! It was truly a great day and our students were so gracious, thanking the officers for their service!

I want to call your attention to concerns related to the traffic on Balboa Blvd and in the parking area/driveway in front of the school. It is all of our responsibility to look out for all of our students, so please slow down when in the parking area, allow student to cross in front of you while you are passing through the driveway, and please do not drop your students off at the curb on Balboa. I continue to strive to get the District and the City to do something about the dangers of the driveway(s) and congestion on Balboa. Please watch for students on foot, skateboards, and bikes as you are entering or exiting the driveways. Remember, we are the models for our children, they are watching us!

An Evite went out to families for the “Every Student Succeeds” event on March 7th. If you haven’t RSVP’d, please do so at http://evite.me/wuahEShj2t. Come see your student’s classes in action!

Seniors: Congratulations to Class of 2017 Valedictorian, Rebekah Spector! We are all proud of your accomplishment! March 2nd all seniors should have their FAFSA submitted. Remember to register for the senior breakfast and picnic in the Student Store. The Breakfast is $25 and the picnic is $30.

DPMHS has 7 students, 2 of which will be alternates, participating in a chess tournament, Saturday April 29, through Assemblymen Adrin Nazarian’s office, at High Tech High, LA! Go Team!

Are you interested in playing basketball in a tournament on Mar. 30th at Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences with 4 other schools? Sign up on the counter for your name to go into a drawing. Ten names will be picked to represent DPMHS at the tournament, and girls and boys are welcome!

ON Tuesday, Feb 28, there is a Math Contest at Nutrition in Rooms 11 and 12.

Wednesday, March 1, the AP Spanish Exam sign-up will be on Ms. Torres table outside her office.

Friday, March 3, Fiesta Friday is back on it’s regular schedule! Make sure you get your dance ticket before lunch on Friday! Also, Nachos will be served to all students and faculty who were in attendance all day on Friday, February 17 and all day on Tuesday, February 21st! Tickets will be distributed during 4th period.

Math tutoring is available after school on Mondays in Room 11, and on Thursdays in Room 12. All are welcome to come for extra help!

This Saturday, March 4th, is Local District Northwest’s Steam Fest Event at Cleveland High School, 8140 Vanalden Avenue, Reseda! DPMHS will have displays set-up and our Music students will be performing! Come support our school and encourage other families to join our great family! We can also use any volunteer assistance you would like to offer!

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 20 is a school holiday! School resumes on Tuesday, Feb. 21st, and it will be a shortened day with dismissal at 1:32pm!

Wednesday, Feb. 22, the Parent Center is offering a Parent Workshop on Making the Most Out of a Conference with Your Child’s Teacher, at 8:15am. All are welcome!

Thursday, Feb. 23, the School Site Council will be meeting at 5:30pm, in the Library! All are welcome to attend this meeting!

Friday, Feb. 24th, at lunch, we have a special event for Fiesta Friday, Ice Cream with a Cop! All students will be served ice cream by the LA School Police, and we will be joined by police and city officials! This is a thank you from LASPD for hosting the LASPD Explorers program on our campus!

Seniors: Buy Your Panorama Picture in the Student Store! Also, Senior T-Shirts and Sweatshirts are on sale in the Student Store!

Looking ahead, the Math Department is hosting another Math Contest on Feb. 28th!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update!

Congratulations to Rebekah Spector, Class of 2017 Valedictorian!

5 Week Progress Reports will be given to students on Monday to bring home. Please sign your student’s progress report and have them return it to their Period 1 teacher!

The school website has a school calendar of upcoming events. Please check it regularly to stay informed of school events. If something is missing, feel free to call the school to get it updated!

Parents, remember to use your Jupiter account to monitor your student’s progress in all classes! If you need help using Jupiter, just call the school and we’d be happy to help!

The School Report Card Parent Survey is due at Daniel Pearl no later than February 16th! You can go online to http://achieve.lausd.net/Page/8397 to complete it online!

Tuesday, Feb. 13th is a Regular Day with dismissal at 3:02pm. Also, Tuesday morning at 8:15am, the Parent Center is hosting a workshop, “Understanding Graduation A-G”. All parents are welcome to attend.

Looking ahead: Monday, Feb. 20 is a school holiday for President’s Day. Thursday, February 23rd is the School Site Council Meeting, at 5:30pm in the library.
On Friday, Feb. 24th, we are having an extended Fiesta Friday for a community event, “Ice Cream with a Cop”, LA School Police, Chief Zipperman, City Attorney Jackie Lawson and members of the Lake Balboa Neighborhood Council will be here to serve ice cream to all of our students! DPMHS was selected as a thank you for hosting the local LASPD Explorers program.

Seniors: the FAFSA is due March 2nd! Get yours done today!

Weekly Update

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your weekly update! Parents, please take a minute to complete the School Survey. This is a very important reflection of our school, and helps the School Site Council to make decisions related to budget. The link for the school survey is http://achieve.lausd.net/Page/8397.

Jupiter is our online, web-based grade book for teachers, and is where you can monitor your students’ progress. If you need help logging onto Jupiter, need your password, or how to use it, please call the school and we will assist you! https://login.jupitered.com/login/

Reminder: Students are not to place food orders for delivery of any kind while here at school. Students will not be called out of class to pay for food deliveries and all food deliveries will be denied and returned to the restaurant.

Monday, February 6th, the STEAM Club will meet for the first time at lunch! Come join STEAM! A lab activity will be offered!

Tuesday, Feb 7 is a shortened day, with a 1:32pm dismissal. Grade level assemblies will be held, beginning 2nd period with our Seniors. 11th graders will attend 3rd period, 10th graders will attend 4th period, and 9th graders will attend during 5th period.

Wednesday, February 8 is the last day to order a personalized yearbook.

Looking ahead: Monday, February 20th there is no school. It is President’s Day! Also, on Friday, February 24th, DPMHS will have a special Fiesta Friday for “Ice Cream with a Cop”! All parents are welcome to join us for this special event!

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to all of the parents and community members who assisted in chaperoning the school field trip to Diavolo at Birmingham HS on Friday! We appreciate your assistance! The Pierce College Class on DPMHS campus still has space available! The class being offered is Anthropology 121, How Religion, Magic, and Withcraft have Changed over the Centuries. See MS. Torres for enrollment information!

On Monday, January 30th, Teen Line will be presenting in Mr. Baer’s 10th Grade English Class! Welcome TeenLine!

Tuesday, January 31st is a regular day with dismissal at 3:02pm.

Thursday, February 2, Teen Line will be presenting in Ms. Pevar’s 9th grade English classes!

Friday, Feb. 3rd is Fiesta Friday! Bring your blankets to share space and picnic lunch with your friends!

Looking ahead, the American Mathematics Competition is Feb. 7th. See Ms. Hicks or Mr. Cramer for details. The last day to order a personalized yearbook is Wednesday, Feb 8th. Seniors: Class packages are still available to be ordered in the Student Store. Parents, you still have time to order a personalized page in their yearbook for your senior!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your weekly update. Tuesday, January 24th is a Shortened Day with a 1:32pm dismissal.

Monday, January 23rd, the Junior Class will hold its first meeting at lunch.

Thursday, January 26th, the School Site Council Meeting will begin at 5:30pm, with pizza being served. Principal Smith will be presenting the School Report Card. Please check your email for an Evite for the event so we can order enough pizza! http://evite.me/nqExw3PURA

Friday, January 27th, DPMHS will attend the Diavolo Performance as a school-wide field trip to Birmingham HS. All students must have a signed field trip slip to attend the performance.
All CSF applications are due for the Spring Semester to Ms. Mauermann in Room 20!

Also, on Friday, the Pajama Jam Dance will be from 5:30pm – 9:30pm in the MPR. Tickets are on sale in the Student Store!

Seniors: Have your parents check the the Pearl Post Facebook page for information on how to place a recognition ad in this year’s yearbook! Also, Senior packages are still on sale in the Student Store.

On Tuesday, February 7th, the American Mathematics Competition will take place. See Ms. Hicks or Mr. Cramer for more information.

Tuesday, January 17th is a Regular Day with dismissal at 3:02pm!

On Thursday, January 19th, all juniors planning to run for Class of 2018 officer positions will be giving their speeches in the MPR at lunch!

Friday, January 20th, Junior Class elections will be held in your English Classes.

California Scholarship Federation Applications are now available in Room 20, Ms. Mauermann. The deadline to turn in your application is January 27th!

Seniors: Senior Class Packages are now available. See Ms. Erica in the Student Store for information!

Looking ahead:
January 26th, 5:30pm, there is a School Site Council meeting in the Library.
January 27th, DPMHS will be attending a school-wide field trip to Birmingham High School to see Diavolo, http://www.diavolo.org/!
