Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to all of the parents who attended the PTSA meeting last night. We appreciate all of your support!

Monday, September 18: All “Class of” Meetings will be held in Advisor rooms at lunch.

Tuesday, the 19th: Picture Make Up Day for all students, seniors this will be for ID’s only. At 6:00pm, the Smart Track College Prep App will be held. This is an excellent tool for families to support the college process. It is also a shortened day, dismissal at 1:42pm.

Thursday, September 21st, there is NO SCHOOL!

Friday, the 22nd: All students will participate in House Lunches in House Courtyards!

Looking ahead: Senior Portrait Make-Up Day is on Tuesday, Sept. 26th, 8:15am – 11:00am. You should have a scheduled appointment.
Wednesday, 9/27 at 8:15am, the Parent Center is offering a class, “Parent in Control”, led by Joanne Tuell, our Psychiatric Social Worker! This will be an informative session for all parents!
Thursday, October 5th: Families Potluck Dinner, 6:30pm – 7:30pm!
Sunday, October 8th: The Encino Family Festival will be from 10am – 4pm and DPMHS will host an information table to recruit new families! Join us at our table and spread the good word about our school!

Weekly Update

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Parents, please make sure we have your correct phone number of emergency contact and remember to log in to JupiterEd to view your students online grades. Your student received your temporary password from their English teacher. If you need help logging in, stop by or call the school.

The front parking, driveway area continues to be very congested. Please remember to drive safely and with caution! All students are “our kids” and we want everyone to arrive in class safely! Patience is a virtue, so let’s be patient with each other! Also, we are still looking for parent volunteers to help in the lot both in the morning and after school.

Tuesday, September 12th students will bring home their 5 week progress report. Parents, please sign it and students return it to their Period 1 teacher. Tuesday is also a shortened day with dismissal at 1:42pm.

On Thursday, September 14th, Period 5, the LA Times High School Insider will speak with students about contributing their work to their website.

Friday, September 15th is Fiesta Friday! All students will gather at lunch time on the lawn for picnic style lunch, sports, and music!

Perfect Attendance competitions begin this month. Perfect attendance means no absences, no early leaves, and no tardies will earn you a raffle ticket for electronics, games, sports balls, and more!

Looking ahead: Tue., Sept 19th is Smart Track App training – this is a college prep app. The Potluck Mixer is October 5th, 6:30 – 7:30pm!

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Remember, tomorrow is a school holiday for Labor Day! Tuesday, September 5th is a shortened day and dismissal is at 1:42pm.

Tuesday, September 5th is Picture Day! All students will have their picture taken for the yearbook, ID cards, and school pictures.

Wednesday, September 6th School Tours will be offered at 11:40am for all prospective families!
ROP Robotics begins this day at 3:30pm in Room 2! See MS. Torres for details and to register! This is a 5 credit class!

Thursday, September 7th is Back to School Night, beginning at 4:30pm with Title I and ELD Meetings in Room 15; the GATE meeting will be at 4:45pm in Room 12; class visits will begin at 5:00pm.
Class Delegates speeches will be made at lunch in the following rooms:
9th grade – Room 19
10th grade – Room 10
11th grade – Room 15
12th grade – Room 13
All delegates running for office should be prepared with their speech.

Friday Sept. 8th Class Delegate Elections will be held at Lunch in all English classes! Vote for your Class of Delegates!
Our Football team has a home game tonight, so come out and support our athletes!

Monday, August 28th: CSF Applications are due to Ms. Mauermann!
The Game Meet-Up is starting in Room 7, join Ms. Pershes for board games such as chess, Connect 4, Uno, and More!

Tuesday, August 29th: Fandom Club meets in Room 15 and the UNICEF Club meets in Room 10 at lunch. We are on a Shortened Bell Schedule with dismissal at 1:42pm.

Wednesday, August 30: School Tours are beginning! Tell your friends and neighbors to visit beginning at 11:40am!
Interact meets during lunch in Room 11. Interact is a service club for young people and is connected to The Rotary.
Senior Information Night is tonight at 6:00pm, in the MPR, and Ms. Torres will cover graduation requirements, college admissions, financial aid, CollegeBoard. This is a very important meeting for all parents of seniors and students!

Football is happening at Birmingham this Friday and will be one of only 2 home games! Support our athletes and go see the game! Varsity begins at 7:00pm!

Looking ahead:
Friday, September 1 is a school holiday for California Admissions Day, and Monday, September 4th is a school holiday for Labor Day. Classes resume Tuesday, September 5th.

Weekly Update

Good afternoon Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. We have successfully finished our first week of classes, and I am so happy to welcome our new students and families, and welcome back our returning students! On Friday, I visited the Robotics class 4th period, and all students were busy delving into the robot kits and getting organized into their teams! So excited about this new class!

On Tuesday, August 22nd, we are on a Shortened Day schedule with a 1:42pm dismissal! Also on Tuesday, all grade levels will attend the Grade Level Orientation with Principal Smith and all school policies and rules will be reviewed.

WednesdayAugust 23rd there is a Lunch meeting to inform all students about the process to run for Class Officer positions and the election process! Anyone interested, come on over to the MPR to learn about this process!

Friday, August 25th, will be the first Fiesta Friday! All students will gather in the front of the school to have lunch together, listen to music, play sports, and get to know each other! You are welcome to bring a blanket or towel to sit on, create your own little picnic area and relax together!

Seniors: Saturday, August 26th, will be Senior Portrait Day. Information will be going home with all Seniors tomorrow!

Looking Ahead: Wednesday, August 30th is Senior Information Night with Ms. Torres, from 6:30pm – 8:00pm. Ms. Torres will talk about graduation requirements, college applications, financial aid, etc…. this is a very important night for Seniors and should not be missed!

Friday, September 1 and Monday, 4 are school holidays. Tuesday, September 5th, is Student Picture Day. All students will be photographed for their ID cards and for portrait packages. More information will be coming in the week ahead!

Parents, remember, when exiting our driveway at the front of the school, you may only make a right turn. Please honor this rule so traffic moves smoothly and you safely begin your journey home. Please check the calendar on the school website, www.pearlmagnet.org for upcoming calendar events.

Good Afternoon Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Welcome to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School, Home of the Sharks! We are excited to open the 2017-2018 school year and have many great events planned for this year! Weekly Updates will go out on most Sundays at 5:30pm to keep you informed of upcoming events and important dates.

Tomorrow, Tuesday August 15th is opening day for students, with the first bell at 7:55am and the tardy bell at 8:00amTomorrow is a shortened day schedule and students dismiss at 1:42pm. Period One classes will be posted for all students in alphabetical order in a variety of locations around the hallways. All students should check to make sure their Period 1 did not change if they came through Orientation. Students should come prepared with a minimum of supplies: pen, pencil, paper, agenda book, and notebook. Teachers will provide students information about class supplies on the first day.

Wednesday, August 15th, is a Minimum Day, with dismissal at 12:27pm.

Thursday, August 16th is the first day of a regular schedule, with dismissal at 3:16pm. Our first PTSA meeting is also Thursday, from 6:30 – 7:30pm, in the Multi Purpose Room, (MPR), at school. All are welcome and I hope you attend this kick-off meeting!

Friday, August 17th is a regular day, with dismissal at 3:16pm.

Looking ahead: Friday, September 1st and Monday, September 4th are school holidays. Thursday, September 7th is Back to School Night, from 4:30pm – 7:00pm.

Reminders: Traffic will be very heavy in the morning. If you are dropping off students, please come into the drop-off lane at the front of the school to drop students. The Students Store has Spirit Wear, mesh bags for PE Clothes, backpacks and messenger bags with our school logo. Also, polo shirts, t-shirts, and hoodies are also available! Show you school spirit and wear your spirit wear!

Weekly Update

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with the final weekly update for this year. Tomorrow is a regular day with a 3:02pm dismissal.

Finals begin on Tuesday, June 6th with minimum days TuesdayFriday, dismissal is at 12:27pm.
On Tuesday, finals will be periods 1 & 2, Wednesday, finals are period 3 & 4, on Thursday, finals will be 5 & 6, and Firday, all classes will meet with a minimum day schedule.

Magnet buses will depart on Tuesday through Thursday at 12:30pm. We are still waiting to hear what time the magnet buses will leave on Friday.

Graduation is Friday, June 9th at 5:00pm, at Mulholland Middle School in the Quad. Seniors will be given their tickets after graduation practice on Friday. If you have extra tickets that you will not use, please let Ms. Lupe know so we can redistribute them.

Looking ahead: The Menchies Meet-up for returning students and incoming students is Monday, June 12th, 6:30 – 7:30pm at 17245 Ventura Blvd. Encino!

Orientation for returning students will be August 11th, from 8:30 4:00. Please check the website at pearlmagnet.org.

Good Afternoon Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Tomorrow, Monday, May 29th, is a holiday and there is no school. Classes resume on Tuesday, May 30th. Thank you to Mr. Hambright and his talented musicians and emcees of the evening for the spring concert! You all were amazing! Also, thank you to PNN crew and sound crew for your live stream of the concert and for excellent management of the sound board! Thank you to all of the parents, faculty, and students who were in attendance and showed your support of our students.

Prom is tonight at the Sportman’s Lodge and I know everyone is going to be dressed in their finest and have a grand time!

Tuesday, May 30: SBAC Testing continues for all 11th graders.

Wednesday, May 31: SBAC Testing continues for all 11th graders.

Thursday, June 1: The Student Council election/voting will take place during Period 1 in classes for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students. The David Labkovsky Art Exhibit is open from 6:30pm – 8:30pm in the MPR, with Mr. Abelson’s World History students serving as docents. This is a free event for all.

Looking ahead: Finals week begins Monday, June 5th. Each day of Finals Week will be minimum days with dismissal at 12:27pm. Graduation is on Friday, June 9th at 5:00pm at Mulholland Middle School in the quad. All seniors will get 6 tickets for confirmed seats, and there will be standing room for additional guests.

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to Mr. Morrison, Mr. Schaffter, Ms. Wynter, our fantastic parents and students for an amazing Comicon II! We had a wonderful turn-out, and it was clear everyone had a grand time!

Athletes: Please check the website, www.pearlmagnet.org for the tryout schedule! Some tryouts have already begun and some will take place over the summer.

DPMHS still has space for new students! Help us spread the word about our #1 school!

There are a few Prestige Yearbooks available for purchase in Room 22, with Ms. Chavira! Bring your cash or check for $75 today and don’t miss out on this fantastic memory of this school year!

Tuesday, May 23rd: Today is a regular day, with dismissal at 3:02pm. SBAC testing begins for all 11th grade students. Get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and be at your best performance to show off the amazing achievement of students at DPMHS!

Wednesday, May 24th: SBAC testing continues!

Thursday, May 25th: The Parent Center is hosting a workshop,”Reading Comprehension Strategies”, at 4:30pm – 5:30 pm, presented by our English Teacher Mr. Baer. The workshop will be held in the Library. At 5:30pm, the final School Site Council meeting will take place in the Library, and at 7:00pm, our Music Department is performing the Spring Concert! All are welcome and this is a free event!

Looking ahead: Monday, May 29th is Memorial Day, and there is no school.
Prom will be held at the Sportsman’s Lodge on Sunday, May 28th, 6pm – 11pm.
The David Labkovsky Art Exhibit, presented by Mr. Abelson’s 5th Period World History Class will take place on June 1st, at 6:30pm. All are welcome and this is a free event!

The Senior Breakfast will be held on Friday, June 9th, beginning at 7:00am. Graduation practice will begin promptly at 8:30am. All seniors will receive their Cap and Gown and guest tickets after rehearsal on Friday, June 9th. Each Senior will receive 6 tickets for guests. Seating will be first come, first serve for seat location, and there will be standing room for additional guests. Graduation is being held at Mulholland Middle School in the quad, and the entrance gate will be at the front of Mulholland.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Congratulations to the Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team in your first place win in the finals! Way to go! Thank you to all of the families and staff who came to Sparkle Saturday! The school really looks great! Your hard work is greatly appreciated! Thank you to Interact for your WAPI building to help 3rd world countries have safe drinking water!

Daniel Pearl still has openings for next year, so encourage your neighbors, friends and family to come check us out! We are the #1 LAUSD high school in the San Fernando Valley!

A few reminders: if you are delivering a late lunch for your student, please bring it in to the Main Office. Lunches are not to be passed through to students at any gates or perimeter fencing. Juniors: Student Body Officer Nominations are due to Mrs. Bootel by Thursday, May 18th! The Yearbook is on pre-sale for $70; see Ms. Chavira in Room 22. Checks payable to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School. Get yours today before they sell out!

Tuesday, May 16th: is a regular dismissal time of 3:02pm, and all 10th grade students will be taking the state Science exam.

Friday, May 19th is a Minimum Day, with dismissal at 12:30pm. Daniel Pearl Scholarship applications are due. Senior Speech applications are due.

Saturday, May 20th is our second annual Comicon!
