Weekly Update

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to Mr. Morrison, Mr. Schaffter, Ms. Wynter, our fantastic parents and students for an amazing Comicon II! We had a wonderful turn-out, and it was clear everyone had a grand time!

Athletes: Please check the website, www.pearlmagnet.org for the tryout schedule! Some tryouts have already begun and some will take place over the summer.

DPMHS still has space for new students! Help us spread the word about our #1 school!

There are a few Prestige Yearbooks available for purchase in Room 22, with Ms. Chavira! Bring your cash or check for $75 today and don’t miss out on this fantastic memory of this school year!

Tuesday, May 23rd: Today is a regular day, with dismissal at 3:02pm. SBAC testing begins for all 11th grade students. Get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and be at your best performance to show off the amazing achievement of students at DPMHS!

Wednesday, May 24th: SBAC testing continues!

Thursday, May 25th: The Parent Center is hosting a workshop,”Reading Comprehension Strategies”, at 4:30pm – 5:30 pm, presented by our English Teacher Mr. Baer. The workshop will be held in the Library. At 5:30pm, the final School Site Council meeting will take place in the Library, and at 7:00pm, our Music Department is performing the Spring Concert! All are welcome and this is a free event!

Looking ahead: Monday, May 29th is Memorial Day, and there is no school.
Prom will be held at the Sportsman’s Lodge on Sunday, May 28th, 6pm – 11pm.
The David Labkovsky Art Exhibit, presented by Mr. Abelson’s 5th Period World History Class will take place on June 1st, at 6:30pm. All are welcome and this is a free event!

Seniors:
The Senior Breakfast will be held on Friday, June 9th, beginning at 7:00am. Graduation practice will begin promptly at 8:30am. All seniors will receive their Cap and Gown and guest tickets after rehearsal on Friday, June 9th. Each Senior will receive 6 tickets for guests. Seating will be first come, first serve for seat location, and there will be standing room for additional guests. Graduation is being held at Mulholland Middle School in the quad, and the entrance gate will be at the front of Mulholland.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Congratulations to the Girl’s Varsity Lacrosse Team in your first place win in the finals! Way to go! Thank you to all of the families and staff who came to Sparkle Saturday! The school really looks great! Your hard work is greatly appreciated! Thank you to Interact for your WAPI building to help 3rd world countries have safe drinking water!

Daniel Pearl still has openings for next year, so encourage your neighbors, friends and family to come check us out! We are the #1 LAUSD high school in the San Fernando Valley!

A few reminders: if you are delivering a late lunch for your student, please bring it in to the Main Office. Lunches are not to be passed through to students at any gates or perimeter fencing. Juniors: Student Body Officer Nominations are due to Mrs. Bootel by Thursday, May 18th! The Yearbook is on pre-sale for $70; see Ms. Chavira in Room 22. Checks payable to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School. Get yours today before they sell out!

Tuesday, May 16th: is a regular dismissal time of 3:02pm, and all 10th grade students will be taking the state Science exam.

Friday, May 19th is a Minimum Day, with dismissal at 12:30pm. Daniel Pearl Scholarship applications are due. Senior Speech applications are due.

Saturday, May 20th is our second annual Comicon!

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Seniors: The application for the Commencement Speech is on the front counter. If you are interested in being selected for this year’s commencement speech, please complete the application no later than May 19th at 3:05 pm. Also, the Daniel Pearl Scholarship application is on the front counter. If you are planning to study Journalism, Media, please consider applying for this annual scholarship!

Yearbooks are on Pre-Sale now. Go to Room 22 with your check for $70, made out to Daniel Pearl Magnet High School, and reserve your copy today!
Leadership is holding a Shoe Drive for others in need. Bring your gently worn shoes and donate them to a great cause!

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Daniel Pearl Magnet HS has openings for next year! Please tell your friends to come check us out!

Any student interested in Student Media for next year, please see Ms. Chavira in Room 22. Spring Show auditions will be held Monday through Wednesday and sign-ups are in the hallway.

Monday, Progress reports will be sent home with students. Please sign and have your student return it to Period 1 teacher.
Tuesday is a regular day with dismissal at 3:02pm.

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Congratulations to the DPMHS Get Lit team for their advancement to the 2nd round in this year’s competition! This is awesome! All of our poets did their best, were well prepared, and should be very proud! Also, thank you to Mr. Hambright and all chaperones for organizing an amazing field trip to the Disney Hall for a spectacular experience! DPMHS has openings for the fall semester! Tell your friends!

Tuesday, April 25 is a regular day, with dismissal at 3:02pm.
Thursday, April 27th, there is an SSC meeting at 5:30pm in the library. All are welcome to attend.
Friday, April 28th, is Fiesta Friday! We will be welcoming a group of Mulholland students to join us during our Fiesta Friday!

Looking ahead, AP Tests start the week of May 1st. Sparkle Saturday is on May 13th, 8:30AM to 1:00PM. Please join us for this community event to spruce up our school!Monday, May 19th is a minimum day, with dismissal at 12:26pm. Comicon is on Sunday, May 20th.

Good evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Classes resume tomorrow, Monday, April 17th! Plan ahead and be on time for period 1, with the opening bell ringing at 7:55am and the tardy bell ringing at 8:00am!

DPMHS is still accepting late applications for space available for the 2017-18 school year! Invite your neighbors, friends, and family to come check us out!

Monday, April 17th, Pennies for Patients Fundraiser continues… bring in your spare change for your Period 1 collection box! STEAM Club meets at lunch and the Chess Meet-up is in Room 7 at lunch!
Tuesday, April 18th, is a regular day with dismissal at 3:02pm. The Math Club meets in Room 3 at Lunch.
Wednesday, April 19th, Open Mic Night in the MPR at 7:00pm. See MR. Baer or Mr. Hambright if you are interested.
Thursday, April 20th, PTSA Board will be meeting at 6:30pm in the Library.
Friday, April 21st, there is a field trip to Pierce College with Ms. Pershes. Remember your trip slips for those that are going!

Looking ahead: Fiesta Friday is on Friday, April 28th! Prom is scheduled for May 28th, at the Sportsman’s Lodge! Be aware this is the weekend of Memorial Day and Monday will be a holiday on May 29th. Graduation is on June 9th, 5:00pm, at Mulholland MS in the Quad! Each graduate will be given 6 tickets for seats!

Good Evening Sharks, this is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update! Congratulations to our amazing basketball team! We won with a clean sweep against all 3 schools, and our students showed sportsmanship and courtesy to all! I especially want to commend Greg and Oscar for stepping up to play for another team who was short some players!

SENIORS! Tomorrow, Monday, April 3rd is the last day to purchase prom tickets!

The Pixar Field Trip is happening on tomorrow, April 3rd, so all students attending the trip must have the trip slip in no later than first thing tomorrow morning! There will be no exceptions!

Tuesday, April 4th is a regular daywith dismissal at 3:02pm.

Math Club is holding a meeting at lunch in Room 3, come see what’s up and get a donut!

Wednesday, April 5th: Our Journalism students attending the JEA Convention leave for Seattle! Good luck to all of you!

Seniors: Don’t forget to pay for your Senior Breakfast, $25, and Senior Lunch, $30, if you didn’t buy a Senior Package.

Looking Ahead, Spring Break begins Monday, April 10 – 14th. Classes will resume on Monday, April 17th.

Weekly Update

Good Evening Sharks, This is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update. Thank you to all of our parents who attended Open House on Thursday, March 23rd! I also want to thank the faculty for putting in the extra attention to having their rooms ready for your visits! Thank you to Sal and Juan for putting in the extra time assisting teachers who had to move classrooms, and for getting additional gardening and janitorial services and Wynter and Lupe for staying to assist in the office.

Monday, March 27th, Mr. Middlebrook is taking some students on a field trip.

Tuesday, March 28th is a regular day with a 3:02 dismissal. The Pierce College Rep will be here to assist students with their applications. AP Exam Payments are due today to Ms. Torres.

Wednesday, March 29th the School Site Council will meet and the main topic is Budget and Categorical funds. All are welcome to attend this important meeting. The meeting begins at 5:30, in the library.

Thursday, March 30th, DPMHS will send 10 basketball players to play in a intramural competition against Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences, Miller CTC, and Adams HS! Go Sharks! The English Department has a Poetry Slam event scheduled as an assembly.

Friday, March 31 is a holiday for Cesar Chavez Day and there is no school.

Science Center, Pixar Exhibit, Field Trip is Monday April 3rd.
Spring Break is April 10-14
