Please read this letter from Superintendent Cortines regarding student health and safety.
Please read this letter from Superintendent Cortines regarding student health and safety.
Dear Parents(s) or Guardian(s):
The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priorities. To provide schools an opportunity to practice emergency response procedures, the Superintendent of Schools has asked all students and staff to participate in a District-wide emergency preparedness drill on Thursday, October 16, 2014, at 10:15am. Please be advised that students will be dismissed at the regular time on this day.
The goals of the training drill are to improve our ability to protect students, save lives, and reduce injuries. As part of the drill, the students and staff will participate in the activation of our school’s Safe School Plan. You are encouraged to participate in this drill. For information about how your school prepares for emergencies, you may check the website http://ParentEmergencyInformation.lausd.net. Information is available in five languages.
Please make sure that all contact information for your child is current at school, so that in the event of an actual emergency, we can reach you.
Prior to the drill, please discuss with your child your family’s home emergency preparedness plan. Several resources are available to help you prepare. The American Red Cross has outstanding materials. You can obtain Red Cross materials in English or in Spanish from their website: http://www.redcross.org or by calling the Los Angeles Chapter at (310) 445-9900. Your telephone directory also has valuable information on first aid, CPR and home preparedness.
If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to call our school office at 818-654-3775.
Sincerely,
Deborah Smith Principal

Greetings to the DPMHS Community-
The DPMHS journalism/yearbook/media students are having a fund-raiser at the McDonald’s just north of Balboa and Vanowen on Thursday, March 6 from 4-7 p.m. No flier needed. Just show up and order as much food as you can! There will be DPMHS teachers and staff working behind the counter, come say Hi. Proceeds go toward the fund-raiser to attend the national high school journalism convention next month.
Additionally, you can also support the students by eating at Guido’s Pizza & Pasta (right next to the Del Taco at Balboa and Vanowen). For the entire month of March, Guido’s will donate 15% of your receipt to the fund raiser. Just make sure to tell them you are supporting the DPMHS journalism students to make it count!
Thank you!

Greetings DPMHS Community-
We are holding a clean-up day (aka Sparkle Saturday) at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School on Saturday, March 8 from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.
We are asking DPMHS students, their families, friends, and community members to please come join us in this volunteer effort to spruce up the school before the Open House/Silent Auction event onMarch 20th.
The plan is to rake, sweep, clean, and tidy up the school grounds, including the parking lot, front lawn, and smaller interior courtyards. The focus will be on cleaning up the exterior areas, but if we get enough people, we will work on the interior hallways as well.
Please bring your own gloves, rakes, brooms, tools, rags, wheelbarrows/bins, and dustpans to help out. If you have them to donate, please also bring plastic garbage bags.
This will be a great opportunity to help out the school and make it ‘sparkle’. I hope to see you there on Saturday, March 8th!
Thank you,
Mary Bower

Greetings DPMHS Community-
It’s just 2 months until our 3rd Annual Silent Auction!! This is our main fundraiser of the year to be held the evening of March 20th during the DPMHS Open House event.
We are in full swing making donation requests and planning the event. Please click here for a copy of our solicitation letter for this year’s Silent Auction. You can help by requesting donations from your favorite store, business, or even friends. Donations can be a product, service, or gift card/certificate. You may want to solicit monetary donations as well. The PTSA is a 501(c)(3) organization, so all donations are tax deductible!
As we get closer to the actual event, we will be asking for parent and student volunteers to help with set-up, manning tables during the evening, and clean up. We will schedule short shifts that evening so you can still wander around (bid on some items) and enjoy the Open House event as well.
If nothing else, please plan on coming to the Silent Auction/Open House event on March 20th. Bring your family and friends. Perhaps you know families with younger children that may be prospective DPMHS students in a year or two. This will be the night to show off our school.
Thank you,
Mary Bower

This year, our school will be participating in the Labels for Education® program. It will be coordinated by our Interact Club. Through the program we can collect UPCs and beverage/sauce caps from participating products to earn points that can be redeemed for FREE educational merchandise!
Our goal this year is to collect 10,000 points. It’s easy to help – simply save UPCs and beverage/sauce caps from participating products and drop them off at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School.
Students can receive points for their house by turning in labels and product caps to Mr. Schaffter and Mr. Cramer. Please include full name and house on envelope.
If you have any questions, or would like to help with our Labels for Education collection drive, please contact me at 818-654-3775 or via email at dpmhs.interact@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support. Together with the Labels for Education program – we can build a better school for our children.
Sincerely, Interact Club
