Pearl Con began three years ago at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School when science teachers Stephen Schaffter and James Morrison decided to coordinate an event that would bring the school and the different fandoms within it together, helping unify students on campus while simultaneously advertising the school and encouraging new students to enroll.
Since then, with support from students who have volunteered time, vendors who have volunteered sponsorships, and Stan Lee himself offering his support, PearlCon grows more and more every year earning the Daniel Pearl Magnet High School more money to support academic and enrichment activities, such as providing funding to allow journalism and communications students to their travel accommodations to the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Conventions twice each school year.
In addition to the signature Garden Cafe, comic booths and trivia contests, PearlCon is known for its wide variety of panels held by notable guests such as comic artist Scott Shaw, Phineas and Ferb's own co-creator (and voice behind the infamous Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz) Dan Povenmire and "Bloodthirsty: One Nation Under Water" creator and professional screenwriter, Mark Landry.
