Good Evening Sharks, This is Principal Smith with your Weekly Update.

Monday, September 7th is a school holiday for Labor Day. Classes resume on Tuesday, September 8th and it will be a shortened day.

DPMHS still has space available for incoming students. If you have friends or family who are looking for a change, please have them contact Ms. Bootel at the school 818-654-3775. The next school tour for prospective families is on Friday, Sept. 11th at 1:15 pm.

Free Math tutoring has begun and is available every Monday after school in Room 11 from 3:20 pm – 4:20 pm and on Thursdays in room 12 from 3:15 pm – 4:20 pm. All are welcome to attend.

“Class of” Leadership elections are underway for the Class of 2017, 2018, and 2019. This is a great opportunity for Sharks to get involved in school leadership! Clubs are forming and any student may start a club if they have a faculty sponsor, see Mr. Hoeks in Room 19 for the proper paperwork.

On Thursday, September 10th, at 9:50 am, DPMHS will hold a Fire Drill for all school members.

Also on Thursday, at 5:30 pm, the School Site Council will be holding nominations and elections for new SSC members. This is your opportunity to be involved in the decision-making process at your school. Seats are open on the Council for faculty, students, and parents! Please attend this very important meeting.

Friday, September 11th, our bi-monthly all-school lunch will take place in the Grove; there will be special acknowledgement for 9/11, as well as Suicide Awareness Day. All Sharks are encouraged to wear yellow on Friday.

Looking ahead, Monday, September 14th, there is no school. On Wednesday, September 16th, the Parent Center is hosting a workshop at 7 pm, on the topic, “Staying Vigilant” to address topics related to student safety, healthy lifestyles, etc. Please join us for this important meeting.

Thursday, September 17th, is Back to School Night, beginning at 5:30 pm7:30 pm. Come and meet your students’ teachers and learn what they have planned for this school year. Food Trucks will also be here to support the Journalism program!

And last but not least, the final Senior Portrait make-up day will be on Thursday, September 24th. This is the last opportunity for seniors to have their portraits taken for the Yearbook and personal family portraits.
